This area has a selection of both routes and boulders around a pristine alpine lake. The Motherload boulder in particular is the single best boulder in Southcentral Alaska that has been discovered so far.
From the Independence mine parking area hike due east on a well established trail up to the hanging valley with the lake. Along the trail you'll pass the troll boulder, and just below the old cabin (the Lynch Cabin) is the Lynch Cabin Boulder. to get to the Motherload Boulder, follow the trail as it winds around to the east side of the lake. It's a massive boulder just uphill from the lake.
